These images were made just after sunrise at Windansea Beach - the land was quiet in the early morning, but the waves were violent and powerful and loud.
Early morning here feels completely different than the night before. Just a handful of people were around, most of them waiting in their cars, with a few brave souls wandering down onto the rocks that were just out of reach of the crashing surf. As the sun rose, the purples and oranges contrasted with Southern California’s unmistakable natural skyline.
If you’re out near the water this early, pay attention to the waves. Sets can push higher up the rocks than they look at first glance, and the conditions can change quickly. A little patience and a lot of awareness goes a long way.
