The Heart of Spain

Our time in Madrid was short (just an afternoon stopover between flights) but it still left an impression. Getting into the city was its own adventure when taxi vans proved impossible to find at the airport, and we ended up splitting into two cabs. The ride in was lined with signs of recent fire damage along the highway, and the heat that day was intense.

With only a few hours, we headed straight for Mercado de San Miguel for lunch, where the food stalls were a welcome break from the sun. An iced coffee later, we decided to head back to the airport and save the rest of Madrid for another trip.
