While I was in Portland, I wanted to spend at least one day getting outside the city and photographing the Oregon coast.
I’d been to Cannon Beach once before, long before I picked up my first camera, but I had forgotten just how massive Haystack Rock is. It’s one of those places you’ve probably seen in photos a hundred times, but the scale doesn’t really register until you’re standing in front of it.
This was also my first time exploring Ecola State Park. Between the views, a few “Hey you guys!” moments, and an unfortunate run-in with poison oak after wandering a little farther down the trail than I probably should have, it ended up being one of the highlights of the trip.
By sunset, the beach was full of photographers, families, and visitors all there for the same reason. I was just happy to be one of them.
