Theatre Photography | Live Stage Performance
Live theatre thrives on contrast - comedy and tragedy, stillness and motion, sound and silence, light and shadow. All of those elements come together on stage in real time, and good theatre photography captures the moment where they intersect.
My goal is to capture performances as they actually feel in the room… the energy of the performers, the decisions behind the staging, and the way lighting shapes what the audience sees. That means paying attention not just to the actors, but to the environment around them and the work of the creative team behind the production.
About This Work
The images on this page come from high school and university theatre programs. These productions combine ambitious storytelling with evolving technical design, and they deserve photography that reflects the effort and collaboration that go into making them work.
I approach these shows as a documentarian inside a live production - working with what’s happening on stage rather than trying to control it.
How I Work
All performances are photographed as they happen - under live production conditions. I don’t change lighting cues, reposition performers, or interrupt the production. My goal is to preserve the look and atmosphere created by the lighting and set designers, director, and technical team while capturing strong moments that can be used for marketing, archives, and promotion.
Working Together
I photograph theatre productions for schools, universities, and performance groups that want images that reflect the real experience of their shows.
